Anne was drawn to the music and later to the dance when she saw an amazing spectacle of bottles of whiskey being poured all over a floor
and then ignited - a large group of Lebanese women stormed the stage and Anne was enchanted with the magical, celebration of the feminine
as the crowds went crazy!
Anne trained with Suraya Hilal in the late 1980s and learned the dance as it inspired, empowered and it fed her soul. Anne met so many
amazing people through dance that she felt it enriched her life considerably and was inspired to create Planet Egypt as a way of bringing
people that loved the dance together to help unite what had been until then, a divided and polarized community. Anne has been funded by
The Arts Council, Millenium Fund and the Big Lottery and she established Planet Egypt which promotes Arabic music, dance and culture. Highlight
so far is working with the Egyptian pop singer Hakim!
Anne's ethos is "I believe those that love the dance come together as brothers and sisters and that binds us energetically. Belly dance
should unite people (women and men) and I am opposed to anything that sets us against each other in the dance."
